What to expect from a Lisbon photo shoot
How it works, from booking to the final gallery
I offer several photography packages, allowing you to select the one that best suits your needs. The 30-minute mini shoot is the shortest option. This is ideal for travellers with limited time or families with children who tend to get bored easily. We can find a few backgrounds in one location to capture your memories.
The 90-minute session is the most popular one. With more time, we can explore a large section of a neighbourhood! The cobblestone streets in Alfama are popular, but we can also enjoy a vacation photography session in Bairro Alto, downtown Lisbon or even in the parks! I will share local insights and guide you through the city while taking images.
There are also longer 4 and 6-hour sessions available for those who want to discover the best-kept secrets in Lisbon. Extend your shoot to Belém, for example, where we can take images near the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower, and the Tagus River.
Afterwards, I will curate the best pictures and edit them. You will receive a private online gallery where you can download the number of images that are included in your package. Now you can dream away and enjoy those beautiful memories from Lisbon!
A relaxed, natural experience — no modelling skills needed
You might think, Marga, I’m camera-shy! I have no experience, and I feel awkward! Will people stare at me? I will be sure to put you at ease, and even better, I know where to find the enchanting, quiet streets without crowds!
I’m always hiding behind the camera, and I know how awkward it can be. I’ve been photographed several times over the last few years, and although I might not love it, I do love the images afterwards!
Be yourself, enjoy the moment, and leave the rest up to me. The right angles and some guidance will result in stunning photographs in this beautiful city! I will do my best to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
Who books a travel photo session in Lisbon?
You might wonder who is hiring a professional photographer on their holiday, so I have outlined the common types of travellers that I meet.
Solo travellers
I was a solo traveller for many years, and I was always behind the camera! Although I have stunning pictures of my travels, I’m hardly ever in them. So instead of taking selfies and carrying around a tripod, you can also hire a vacation photographer!
And while some solo travellers thrive in large groups and meet in hostels, others are more introverted (hello!) and prefer a private environment. All my photography services are private, and you won’t have to share your time with multiple clients posing for the camera.
Couples
A Lisbon photoshoot is perfect for couples! Lisbon offers plenty of romantic streets, and you’ll enjoy beautiful pictures from your trip. Maybe it’s your first holiday as a couple, your honeymoon, you’re pregnant, or perhaps it’s an anniversary.
Although I don’t currently actively offer wedding photography, I am available for your elopement.

Families
Portugal is an amazing destination for families, and as a local Lisbon photographer, I captured many of them over the years. I love capturing candid images of children as they run around, and I want to take your family photos that you can cherish forever.
I know not all kids are interested in a stranger with a camera in hand, but I have some props that even the most uninterested kids (usually) love! No small kids anymore? Adult children are more than welcome! It’s super special to take mother-daughter pictures in Lisbon or celebrate a special moment with your father and grandparents.

Most popular locations for the Lisbon photoshoot
Alfama
Alfama is by far the most requested location. It’s the oldest part of town, and there is simply a lot to see! I often have sessions near São Jorge Castle and the famous viewpoints Miradouro de Santa Luzia and Miradouro das Portas do Sol. Once in a while, the famous Tram 28 rides by, and on longer sessions, we can see even more spots!
Alfama is also a fun location for kids! We can spot peacocks, and there is a playground. On the 90-minute shoots, I love showing people around in a maze of cobbled streets and narrow alleyways. Highlights such as the Igreja de São Vicente de Fora, Lisbon Cathedral, and Praça do Comércio are within reach.
Bairro Alto
Bairro Alto is another charming neighbourhood with plenty of nice backdrops. During a shoot in this area, you can take in viewpoints such as Miradouro de Santa Catarina and Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.
Other highlights include the ancient streets and the funiculars of Bica. Depending on the time, we can visit Pink Street and the Time Out Market area. Along the way, I will happily share some stories about the city and point out fun things to do, as well as recommend some nice restaurants.
Hidden gems I love sharing
Your Lisbon vacation will be filled with highlights, but there are also plenty of hidden gems to discover. Even in famous neighbourhoods like Alfama! I’d love to point out some amazing places in Lisbon!
Some travellers also prefer a quieter setup. The Lisbon parks are perfect for you! There are often very few to no people, so you can totally feel at ease.

Cascais or Sintra
I am a photographer based in Lisbon, but I am available for shoots in Sintra or Cascais. Please inquire about options and available dates. Additionally, please note that photography is not permitted in certain palaces. Those that allow commercial photography charge a fee.
Do you prefer taking pictures?
I offer half and full-day photography workshops in Lisbon! We start with an introduction to photography, and you’ll receive course workbooks. Then we put it all into practice, and you can take home lovely images from your trip!
These photo walks are fully customisable to your interests, and the experience is suitable for beginners and photography enthusiasts!

What to wear and bring to your session
First things first: there are zero fashion rules here. I’m not a fashion blogger, and I don’t expect you to be either. Wear what you feel amazing in! It’s more important that you’re comfortable and confident, not tugging at a too-tight dress or wobbling on cobblestones in heels (trust me, Lisbon’s uneven streets and stilettos are not friends).
If you’re booking a quick 30-minute session, plan to stick with one outfit. There’s no time or place for a wardrobe change. For longer sessions, you can switch it up, but we’ll need to stop at a café so you can use the bathroom to change (and maybe sneak in a pastel de nata?). Just remember: any outfit change time comes out of your shoot, so it’s best to plan ahead.
Above all, pick something you love wearing. Whether it’s flowy, fitted, bold, or neutral, your personality is what makes the photos pop. Bring some water on hot days, and keep large backpacks at home. This way, you are the most comfortable.
What times are the best for a shoot?
The best light conditions are found in the morning and just before sunset. Portugal has summer and winter time, so the ideal hours change according to the season.
Overall, the best light in the morning is between 7:00 and 10:00 AM, and in the evening, around 2 hours before sunset. When you make your reservation, we can see what makes most sense for the time of year.
Who is your Lisbon photographer?
Hello! My name is Marga! I’m originally from the Netherlands, but I moved to Portugal in 2021. I used to work as an international flight attendant, and that’s when I picked up my first camera. I just wanted to capture everything during my travels, and my photography journey started in 2006.
Well, that slightly escalated! I worked as a destination wedding photographer for several years and assisted a fashion photographer in Ireland. I got into vacation photography in 2018 when I lived in Berlin, and I haven’t looked back!
I love meeting people from all over the world, and I genuinely love my job! My heart beats faster when I see golden sunsets and stunning backdrops, and I would love to capture you in the capital of Portugal! How do I book a photo session in Lisbon?
You can email me or use the online booking platform. It’s best to book 6–8 weeks in advance to ensure your preferred date is available. You can finalise the payment securely online or on the day itself.
What if I’m not comfortable in front of the camera?
No worries, I know how you feel! I’ll guide you through the whole shoot and help you feel relaxed, so we can capture natural photos you’ll love forever.
How long is the session, and how many photos do I get?
Sessions are typically 30, 60 or 90 minutes, but I also offer longer options (4 or 6 hours). The number of edited images depends on your package: 20 photos for 30 minutes, 60 for 90 minutes, and 100+ for the longer sessions.
Can we choose the locations together?
We sure can! Perhaps you’ve already found some backgrounds you’d like to include, or maybe you have a special location in mind? Just message me and we can come up with a plan!
What if the weather isn’t great?
Knock on wood, so far I have never had to cancel a shoot due to bad weather. But it can happen! Let’s see if we can reschedule our shoot. If not, I will provide a full refund in case of pre-payment. Please check the terms and conditions for more details.
How do we receive the images?
After a few days, you’ll get your digital photos in a private, password-protected online gallery. It’ll stay live for a few months, but be sure to download your images to your own device so you have them forever!
