A RELAXED WALKING TOUR EXPERIENCE WITH A PROFESSIONAL LISBON PHOTOGRAPHER

Skip the Selfies: Hire a Lisbon Solo Travel Photographer

Stop handing your phone to strangers and hoping for the best. I’ll take you to Lisbon’s highlights and quietest spots for photos that actually look like you, all while feeling like you’re just exploring the city with a local friend.

Why Book a Solo Photo Session in Lisbon?

Let’s be honest: solo travel is incredible, but the “photo tax” is real. You’re either stuck with a gallery full of buildings you can’t remember the names of, or a collection of awkward, arm’s-length selfies that don’t do this city justice. A solo session isn’t just a photoshoot; it’s your chance to finally show up in your own story.

  • The “Not-So-Touristy” Route: We can skip the elbows-out crowds at the main landmarks in the mornings. Or even better, I’ll take you through the winding backstreets and quiet squares of the city!
  • Dump the Tripod (and the selfies): Stop handing your expensive gear to people who don’t know your “good side.” You get to be fully present at the moment while I handle the angles, the lighting, and the timing.
  • Zero Cringe, All Confidence: Forget the “awkward” poses. We’ll keep it moving, keep it conversational, and keep it natural. Most of my clients start saying they’re “unphotogenic” and end it feeling like a local.

Where Should We Capture Your Lisbon Story?

Before I take your solo travel portraits in Lisbon, I’ll help you select the setting that reflects your personality. Let’s find the one that fits your vibe:

Alfama

Perfect for authentic, timeless shots. Think laundry-strewn balconies, winding medieval alleys, and the rattle of the iconic Tram 28.

Bairro Alto

Ideal for vibrant, colourful portraits. We’ll explore sun-drenched squares and quiet, narrow streets that boast incredible character and tiled facades.

Belém Riverside

Best for those seeking wide-open views. We’ll use the golden hour glow over the Tagus River and the 25 de Abril Bridge for a more contemporary, airy aesthetic.

Locations, timing, and custom options for solo travel photography in Lisbon

Choose from 30, 60, or 90-minute sessions. If you’re looking for a more editorial feel with multiple outfit changes or want to traverse several distinct districts, extended sessions are always an option.

To capture that soft, ethereal Portuguese light and avoid the midday bustle, I highly recommend early morning starts, especially during the warmer summer months.

From the tile-clad walls of Alfama to the street art of Bairro Alto, we can map out a route that fits your aesthetic.

While central Lisbon is my usual playground, your story doesn’t have to stop there. I’m available for custom solo travel photography in Sintra, Cascais, or further afield across Portugal.

What Clients Have to Say

“Marga was friendly and funny, easy to talk with. I could become friends with her instantly! And yet she didn’t miss any instants to take wonderful photos. I am glad I found this experience while I was in Lisbon :)”

“Marga has wide experience in life and photography, super authentic and warm. If you want someone to take great photos in all the charming spots, share the Portuguese culture from a fresh perspective, inspire your life and elevate your trip, Marga is the go-to person in Lisbon and beyond!”

Rui

“I booked the photo tour with Marga, and it was such a fantastic experience! It’s perfect for solo travellers! Marga is a very chatty, open and considerate person, so even if you feel a bit anxious about posing for the photos you will soon feel at ease and have fun. Another perk is that you get to see some beautiful places in the Alfama district you maybe wouldn’t have discovered otherwise. So if you want to explore Lisbon with a local and get brilliant pictures of you on your trip – this is the Lisbon photography experience to book!”

Amy

“Marga is not only an incredible photographer who works beautifully with your best angles and poses while curating the most breathtaking photos with her vision, her chosen locations, and her lens, but she is also an abundance of love, care, warmth, knowledge, and excellent communication. She will go out of her way to make sure her clients are happy—I told her about my tight schedule and she even found me locker prices at my train station so I could save time in the morning. What a beautiful soul. If you get the chance to book a session with her, PLEASE DO IT. It was the best decision of my first solo trip! The photos were sent to me within a few hours from the shoot, and they were edited PERFECTLY—not too much, just a simple and soft warm glow. I cannot stop staring at the photos, and I have no idea how I’m going to choose which ones I want to print out to send to my relatives back home. They’re all so stunning. Thank you, millions, Marga!”

Haniyyah

“I can’t say enough how great this experience was, and I’ve done these types of photo shoots in many different countries. Marga is the absolute best. She does doggy photo shoots too so I brought my dog with me, who I told her beforehand tends to always look quite grumpy. Not with Marga! She caught some of the sweetest smiles, and greatest photos of the two of us and Rainbow alone. In fact, the photo she took has now taken the top spot as my all-time favourite picture of my dog, Rainbow (my dog) and I am going to print it! Marga delivered the photos within HOURS of finishing the shoot. I wasn’t even home yet! But it’s much more than that! It’s her personality and spirit and storytelling talent that brings Lisbon to life. It felt like a walking tour at the same time, I learned so much!! I know there’s a lot of photographers to choose from but you won’t regret going with Marga. It was a 10/10 experience. Book it! It’s worth it!”

Your Lisbon vacation photographer for solo travellers

That’s why my approach is rooted in making you feel welcome and entirely at ease. Like an inspiring walk through the city with a local friend.

Whether it’s your first time travelling alone or you’re a seasoned nomad, I’m here to ensure you finally have beautiful, professional memories where you are actually in the frame.

My mission is to make any Lisbon photoshoot for solo travellers easy, enjoyable, and completely stress-free from start to finish. Your Questions Answered

How do I get good photos of myself while travelling solo in Lisbon?

The best way to get high-quality, authentic photos is to step out from behind the selfie stick and hire a Lisbon solo travel photographer. While tripod shots are an option, a professional session allows you to relax and interact naturally with the city’s historic backdrop, ensuring you actually appear in your own travel memories.

Can I hire a photographer for an hour in Lisbon?

Absolutely. I offer flexible sessions to suit your itinerary, including a 60-minute session which is perfect for capturing the highlights of a single neighbourhood.

What if I feel nervous being the sole focus of the camera?

This is the most common concern for solo travellers, and as a former solo wanderer myself, I completely understand it! My sessions are designed to feel like a relaxed walk with a local friend. I provide gentle creative direction and natural posing tips to help you feel at ease, ensuring your travel portraits in Lisbon look candid and effortless rather than staged.

Where are the best places for a solo photoshoot in Lisbon?

It really depends on the “vibe” you’re going for, but I usually suggest the colourful streets of Alfama if you want that classic Lisbon look, or the waterfront in Belém for something a bit more open and modern. If you’re after something more local and edgy, the street art around Bairro Alto is brilliant, while the area around the main square is perfect for those clean, elegant architectural shots. And the parks are also stunning and very quiet!

What should I wear for my solo shoot in Lisbon?

The most important thing is a comfortable pair of shoes, as those Lisbon hills and cobbles are no joke! I’d suggest sticking to neutral tones or pastels, as they look brilliant against the white limestone and blue tiles, though a pop of red always stands out nicely. It’s also best to avoid big logos, so the focus stays on you rather than your clothes.

When is the best time for my photoshoot in Lisbon?

I’d always recommend the early morning if you want that soft, dreamy light and, more importantly, the streets all to yourself. Lisbon gets very busy, especially at weekends, so being out early is the best way to feel relaxed. That said, the hour before sunset is also beautiful; the light is really flattering and perfect for getting those glowing, golden-hour shots.

What if it’s raining?

Lisbon is famous for its sunshine, but if we do get a bit of rain, don’t worry! We can usually find some beautiful sheltered spots under the city’s arches to keep us dry, or we can simply try to reschedule for a clearer slot if my calendar allows.

How will I receive my photos?

I’ll send over a link to your own private, high-resolution online gallery within two working days. It’s really easy to use, and you can download your favourites straight away or share the link with friends and family back home. Your gallery will stay live and accessible for a full year, so you’ve got plenty of time to save your memories.

Should I book in advance?

Definitely! If you’re visiting between spring and autumn, it’s best to get in touch two or three months ahead, as my calendar fills up fast. That said, if you’ve just arrived and fancy a last-minute session, do send me a message. I sometimes have a gap and would love to fit you in.

Ready to make some memories?

I’d love to help you document your Lisbon adventure. If you’re ready to secure a classic session in one of the most iconic neighbourhoods, you can book a slot directly. For custom requests or if you just want to chat through some ideas first, feel free to send me a message.
