Discover the Wine Experience Museum at WOW in Porto
The interactive Wine Experience Museum in Vila Nova de Gaia is a must-visit for wine lovers visiting Portugal. It’s part of the WOW (World of Wine) museums, and you’ll learn everything about the many wine-producing countries and Portugal’s wine culture.
I visit Porto regularly and I’m a big fan of wine! On each trip, I try to learn more about wine and Portuguese traditions.
You’ll delve into the diverse wine regions and learn everything about the winemaking process. You’ll be able to demystify wine and discover more about the variety and diversity. The Wine Experience is both educational and visually stunning.
It will certainly be a memorable experience, and it’s also the best rainy-day activity in Porto! You’ll find the WOW Wine Experience Museum across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia, where you can find the Port wine houses that Porto is so famous for!
It’s perfect for wine connoisseurs, amateurs and wine enthusiasts alike. After the exhibition, you can also enjoy a tasting experience! But even children are more than welcome, although they will have to settle for grape juice!
What is The Wine Experience Museum in Porto?
The Wine Experience Museum is an interactive museum where you learn everything about wine.

Rather than just looking at displays, you’ll discover informative multimedia exhibits that allow you to learn about grape varieties and their main characteristics, winemaking techniques, and the history and production of wine.
The experience is both educational and visually engaging, making it ideal for curious beginners and wine lovers alike. And yes, even kids love it!
What can you expect inside?
You’ll start the exhibition by going on a journey through global wine culture. You’re welcomed by a massive globe and beautiful video panels. You’ll discover which grapes thrive in which climate and more about the types of soil. And what is the difference between a supermarket grape and a wine grape? You’ll know after your visit!

You’ll also discover everything there is to know about the finest wine regions of Portugal and their traditions. And, of course, how Portugal became one of the world’s most diverse wine-producing countries.
The large panels will tell you much more about the shoots, pruning and photosynthesis. Each season has a special task for the wine ranks, and you can view videos and signs that explain it all. Afterwards, you’ll fully understand the life cycle and how wine is made! And also that a Vinho Verde is not green!

There is even a small replica of a Portuguese village where you learn more about Portuguese wines from Alentejo, Madeira, and Douro. And the sensory experiences are also fun! Can you distinguish the differences in aroma and taste?
You can end your visit with a guided tasting session. The tastings occur every few minutes, and you can sample three different wines: a red, a white, and a Port wine. Before you try it, swirl the wine and evaluate its colour.

Are you travelling with children? They can enjoy a grape juice! The minimum legal drinking age in Portugal is 18 years old.
